PARIS TN: Man killed in Tuesday accident

Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper Dakota Jordan sprays paint along the outline of a Toyota sedan after a one-vehicle rollover accident Tuesday afternoon. The driver, J.C. “Jay” Kennedy, was killed.

An 18-year-old Henry County man was killed Tuesday in one-vehicle accident on Highway 79 southwest of Paris.

J.C. “Jay” Kennedy, who graduated from Henry County High School this year and was going to play football on a scholarship at Bethel University this fall, was killed when his blue-gray Toyota Highlander wrecked about five miles southwest of Paris.

The wreck occurred about 12:45 p.m. Kennedy was apparently driving toward Paris when he swerved, then over-corrected and ran into a ditch off the right side of the road, according to THP Lt. Brad Wilbanks, who was at the scene later along with Trooper Dakota Jordan.

The vehicle flipped two or three times before coming to rest in the driveway of a home. Kennedy was thrown from the vehicle and landed about 90-100 yards away in the home’s yard.

Kennedy was transported by ambulance to Henry County Medical Center.

It was unclear whether he died on the way to the hospital or after he arrived at the emergency room.

A Vanderbilt LifeFlight helicopter had been called to the scene but ultimately wasn’t used.
