PARIS TN: Driver said she’s ‘lucky’ to walk away

Paris Police Sgt. Tony Hutcherson directs traffic around this upside-down gray Honda Fit about 3:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Highway 641 and the 218 Bypass on the southeast edge of Paris. The car is owned and was driven by Margaret McPherson of Paris. She said she wasn’t hurt, even hanging upside-down in her seatbelt. “I’ll never be as lucky,” she said of surviving the crash without being seriously hurt. She added at the scene that she’s thankful her 93-year-old husband, Gordon, who is usually in the passenger seat when she’s driving, wasn’t with her this time, because the impact was on the passenger side. A witness, Bo Braswell, who lives between Big Sandy and Camden, said a gray 2007 Dodge Caravan ran one of the four-way stop signs and plowed into the Fit, causing it to flip over. The Fit was going southwest on 218 while the Caravan was going southeast on 641. The accident report isn’t yet available to provide more information.
