Posting regular-season closing victories at Henry School on Monday has the Harrelson Lady Hawks and Hawks looking forward to the upcoming River Conference tournament.

The Lady Hawks were 48-18 winners over the Lady Pirates Monday, while the Hawks scored a 53-42 triumph. Harrelson’s girls are 5-8, while the Hawks improve to 9-4. Both Henry teams are 0-14.

Henry travels to Big Sandy to complete its regular season on Thursday. Games start at 6 p.m.

The River Conference coaches plan to meet today to set up the brackets and select dates for the tournament.



Harrelson scored in double figures in all four quarters of Monday’s contest. The Lady Hawks grabbed a 13-2 first quarter lead. Harrelson posted a 12-5 scoring edge in the second period to build a 25-7 halftime lead.

An 11-4 scoring run in the third quarter boosted Harrelson’s lead to 36-11. The Lady Hawks finished with a 12-7 scoring edge in the fourth period to make the final score 48-18.

Averie Belle O’Daniel erupted for 31 points for Harrelson. Emma Thompson, Cara Wyrick and Kennedy Jackson all added four points. Laney French hit for three points with Jourdin Byars scoring two.

O’Daniel sank four 3-point shots in the contest.

Henry got 13 points from Kahlan Foster, three points from Cylie Parrish and two points from Erica Wilson.



The Hawks jumped out to a 17-7 first quarter lead but saw the Pirates storm back into the game in the second period. Henry out-scored Harrelson 19-16 in the second stanza to cut the Hawks’ halftime lead to 33-26.

Third-quarter scoring was close, but Harrelson managed a 13-10 edge to push its lead to 46-36. Scoring slowed in the fourth quarter with the Hawks edging out a 7-6 advantage to win by a 53-42 margin.

Harrelson was led in scoring by Braiden Newell with 15 points, while Devin Valentine added 13. Cole Townsend scored nine points with Ian Bradley chipping in six. Both Tyson Hornbuckle and Landon Dougherty hit for four points. Devin Wofford scored two.

Valentine connected on a 3-pointer for Harrelson.

Henry’s Conner Beecham tossed in 12 points with Camron Carter scoring 10.

Hunter McElroy contributed eight points, while Tyrese Williams scored five. Jakob Grgic and Michael Tharpe put in three points each and Gavin Brockwell scored one point.

Williams and Tharpe both hit 3-point shots.
