The Paris-Henry County Arts Council is excited to announce its 37th annual Artists’ Showcase, which will be held from April 2-19. We are inviting artists to participate in this event and showcase their talents in seven different categories: ceramics, drawing, fiber, mixed media, painting, sculpture and glass. Entry forms are due on March 27, so be sure to submit your work before the deadline.
We’ll be giving out awards at a public reception at Rhea Public Library from 1-3 p.m. April 2. The awards include best of show, first-, second- and third-place, and people’s choice.
The entry fee is $15 apiece, and artists can enter up to three pieces. We encourage all artists to participate and show off their creativity.
The arts play a vital role in small communities like Paris and Henry County, providing opportunities for cultural experiences, supporting local businesses and improving education. Overall, the arts contribute to the quality of life in these communities by providing opportunities for creative expression, social interaction and cultural enrichment.
The Arts Council was founded in 1973, and we’re committed to promoting, encouraging and stimulating the practice and appreciation of the arts in our community. We’re proud to host or participate in more than 36 yearly events that all contribute to the promotion of the arts. We raise more than $30,000 annually, which goes directly back into promoting the arts. We estimate roughly 22,000 people are directly impacted by our efforts each year.
In addition to the Artists’ Showcase, we have several other exciting events planned for this year. The Photo Showcase will be held from April 23 through May 19, followed by the Farm-to-Table Fundraiser on June 8. Arts ’Round the Square will take place on Sept. 30, and we are excited to announce a new event, the Great Pretenders.
The Great Pretenders is a lip-synching competition where teams of local individuals in our community compete to win the judges’ awards. Previously hosted by the Henry County Healthcare Foundation, we are thrilled to bring this event back to our community through the arts council. Be sure to stay tuned for more information about this exciting event.
We just updated our website with all of our events for the year, so be sure to check it out and mark your calendars. We look forward to serving our community in 2023 and promoting the arts in Paris and Henry County.
