A Henry County High School graduate was recently promoted to deputy chief operating officer with the City of Memphis.
Kyle Veazey, who grew up in Cottage Grove and graduated from HCHS in 2000, was promoted by Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland on Sept. 12.
Veazey had been deputy director of communications for the Strickland administration.
In his new role, he will work with the city’s Chief Operating Officer Doug McGowen to deliver long-term priority projects, coordinate the city’s role in economic development initiatives and oversee performance improvement opportunities.
He joined the administration in 2016 after an 11-year journalism career, most recently as an editor at The Commercial Appeal. He is a 2004 graduate of the University of Mississippi.
Strickland said Veazey has been “a big part of our work these two and a half years. We recognize and reward talent at the City of Memphis, and I’m proud to watch (Veazey) grow as (he plays) an even greater role in continuing our progress.”
Veazey is transitioning into his new job this week.
