Murray Perkins of Henry County recently competed in the National Junior Shorthorn Show and Youth Conference in Lebanon, placing among the top finishers in three categories.
Perkins, a 2018 graduate of Henry County High School, finished second in the senior age division for ages 17-21 in the High Point award contest. Competitors exhibited their animals and were involved in individual contests.
A grand total from the various contests was compiled and the top five individuals were recognized by age division.
Perkins teamed with Abigayle Pollock, Jonna Owen and Sam Teeple on the Tennessee team to finish fourth in the Herdsman Quiz Bowl contest.
That was a test of the knowledge competitors have in the areas of agriculture, beef cattle and the shorthorn breed.
Perkins finished fifth in the senior age division for ages 17-21 in the livestock judging contest.
Contestants use their knowledge and show their understanding of livestock, as well as their ability to evaluate livestock.
Competitors came from 29 states, Canada and Australia to compete in the show June 17-22.
