It is fortuitous for ornamental gardeners in these parts that the much-lauded azalea season that is beginning to fade is followed closely by the onset of hydrangea season.
Notice the “onset.” Hydrangea time follows azaleas, all right, but extends for a lot longer. Some hydrangeas won’t kick in until late summer. Most of them are, for sure, on the cusp. And today we are talking about the cusp, that is the first ones to show in our gardens.
