A Paris man was arrested on animal cruelty charges Friday afternoon after allegedly throwing a beagle puppy in a plastic bag into a downtown dumpster.
Stan Wilson, 60, of 244 Old Union Loop in Paris, was arrested for aggravated cruelty to animals by Paris Police Capt. Ricky Watson.
According to a release by Watson, officers took a complaint July 8 that a beagle puppy had been put in a plastic bag and thrown into a dumpster downtown on July 3.
Watson said this was not the first time the complaintants found a dog in a plastic bag in their dumpster, but it was the first time they found one that was still alive.
The puppy was taken to a local veterinary clinic where it died soon after being treated.
Watson said during the investigation, it was determined that the dog was put in the dumpster by Wilson.
Wilson was arrested Friday after turning himself in at the Henry County jail.
He will appear Tuesday in Henry County General Sessions Court and has been placed under a $5,000 bond.
