Smoke still rises Monday morning at the scene of a fatal house fire that was discovered  Saturday night on Highway 69A east of Paris.

A Henry County man is believed to have been killed in a Saturday house fire on Highway 69A east of Paris.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Department, the body of David M. Ditto Jr., 76, 2495 Hwy. 69A was discovered after a fire that broke out at his home.

Officers responded to a call about the the fire at 7:30 p.m. Also responding were firefighters from the Oakland and Springville volunteer fire departments.

On arrival, deputies and firefighters found the house engulfed in flames. After the fire was contained, further investigation showed that someone had been inside the home.

Sheriff’s Capt. Adam Jenkins confirmed Monday that the body is believed to be Ditto, and that he was alone in the home at the time of the fire.

The body has been sent for an autopsy and positive identification. Subsequent investigation, including State Bomb and Arson investigators, showed no signs of foul play.

The Paris-Henry County Rescue Squad also offered assistance during the incident.
