A mother and son were airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center after a one-car accident on Highway 140 near Cowpath Road Tuesday morning.

Destiny Plunkett, 24, and Kevin Dylan Plunkett, 6, both of Buchanan, were injured in the wreck involving a 2012 Dodge Journey.

According to Lt. Brad Wilbanks of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the vehicle was traveling west on Highway 140 when it ran off the right side of the road making a turn and struck a ditch, then a tree.

The vehicle came to an uncontrolled stop facing west off the right side of the roadway.

Both mother and son were airlifted to Vanderbilt, where they were both listed in stable condition Tuesday afternoon, according to a hospital spokesman.

Destiny Plunkett was not wearing a seat belt, but Kevin Plunkett was wearing his seat belt, according to Wilbanks’ report.
