A Paris man was arrested Saturday afternoon on charges of attempted murder, aggravated burglary and aggravated assault.

Demetrias L. Hilliard, 23, of 206 Courthouse Apartments, 101 W. Magnolia St., was arrested on State Line Road after fleeing the crime scene south of Cottage Grove.

According to a report by Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy Kyle Waldron, he responded just after 4 p.m. Saturday to an address on Jim Hunt Road in reference to a stabbing. When he arrived, he found the stabbing victim sitting in a chair in the kitchen with a stab wound in his stomach.

Waldron and Sheriff’s Deputy William Whitaker tended to his wound until Henry County Medical Center Emergency Services arrived and transported him from the scene.

The victim was flown by helicopter to a Memphis hospital.

The property owner told Waldron that Hilliard had entered the home and headed for a bedroom that the man and a woman were in.

She said Hilliard had a knife in his hands, and she tried to stop him but was unable to.

Hilliard pushed the property owner out of the way and opened the bedroom door, she said.

The woman who was in the room told Waldron that she and the man were laying in bed, and she jumped up when she heard the commotion.

She said Hilliard came into the bedroom and began attacking her, punching her at least twice in the face.

She said the man got up and attempted to defend her, and then Hilliard began attacking him with the knife.

She said the man was able to block Hilliard from stabbing him the first time, but then Hilliard was able to stab him twice in his left side.

The property owner said Hilliard then fled the home and ran to a black car that was parked about 200 yards down the road.

Investigator Scott Wyrick responded to the scene and took over the investigation.

According to a social media post from the Sheriff’s Department, the vehicle was found later at a residence on State Line Road, along the Tennessee-Kentucky state line.

An update to that post about 1 a.m. Sunday said the Sheriff’s Department found Hilliard in the State Line Road area with the help of the Puryear Police Department and the Calloway County Sheriff’s Department.

According to an arrest report, Hilliard is charged with attempted second degree murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and domestic assault.

He is to appear Tuesday in Henry County General Sessions Court. His bond was set at $200,000.
