A jailer at the Henry County jail was fired and arrested Thursday after an internal investigation by the Henry County Sheriff’s Department found he had had inappropriate sexual contact with a female inmate.
Richard Wade Sanders Jr., 21, a correctional officer with the Sheriff’s Department, was terminated by Sheriff Josh Frey, who said in a press release late Thursday afternoon that his department had opened its probe Wednesday, checking into sexual contact with female inmates involving Sanders.
“The Henry County Sheriff’s Office does wish to maintain a professional department and will hold officers to high standards. All allegations against an officer will be thoroughly investigated and, if needed, officers will be criminally charged,” said Frey.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation then looked into the case, and Sanders was charged with three counts of sexual contact with an inmate. His bond was set at $25,000.
