A coloring contest to celebrate the 12th annual Holly Jolly Electric Christmas Parade is underway.
Coloring pages are available downtown at K and B Supplies for Success, The Toggery inside Bo and Company and Jack’s Java, or by visiting the Downtown Paris Association Facebook page or www.VisitDowntownParis.com. The contest is sponsored by K and B and the DPA.
“The winner in each age group will receive a huge basket of fun art supplies from our store including colored markers, crayons, drawing pads, construction paper, paints, modeling clay and more,” said Brenda Evans of K and B. “To make things even sweeter, there will be candy and other Christmas goodies.”
The contest is divided into two age groups with a coloring page for grades K-2 and a different page for grades 3-5. Coloring sheets should be returned to the locations above before 5 p.m. Dec. 8, the day of the Downtown Christmas Festival and Holly Jolly Electric Christmas Parade. Winners will be contacted by the DPA the following week.
Artist Ansley Cate’s sketches were chosen from a number of designs submitted by HCHS art students.
A high school senior, Cate said that as a child, she “always did lots of activities related to Christmas, including coloring pictures and making crafts. I love knowing that I’m playing a part in getting local children into the Christmas spirit.”
“I’m proud of Ansley, whose sketches were chosen for both age groups,” said HCHS art instructor Greg Chandler. “A large number of students participated in this project, which was a great learning experience for them. Partnering with the DPA and giving back to our community is a treat.”
Many of these pieces of art will find a home at K and B following the judging.
“We plan to post as many pages from our young artists as possible for Santa to enjoy while he is in Downtown Paris on weekends,” said Evans.
