Two people are dead after an apparent murder-suicide Monday night in Paris.
The bodies of Jessica Jones, 29, 1026 Depot St. and Demarrio Borum, 40, of McKenzie were discovered Monday inside Jones’ home at after Paris Police officers responded to an armed suicide threat by Borum.
According to Paris Police Capt. Ricky Watson, PPD officers were on Depot Street investigating a report of an unrelated runaway juvenile about 9:50 p.m. when they heard several gunshots coming from the home.
On arrival, the three officers found Borum in the back yard of the home with a handgun.
He then took the weapon, put it to his head and threatened to kill himself.
The officers then took cover, and Borum went back into the house.
Paris Police Sgt. Jamie James arrived on the scene and attempted to make contact with the Borum, who was still inside the house.
Several attempts were made to begin a conversation with Borum, but were unsuccessful.
As officers prepared to go inside the home, they heard the sound of another gunshot.
They then entered the home and found the bodies of Borum and Jones inside.
After an investigation of the scene, officers believe that Borum had shot and killed Jones. He was apparently in the process of leaving the home after the murder when he was confronted by PPD officers outside.
Borum then went back inside the home, where he subsequently committed suicide.
Family members were notified and both bodies have been sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for autopsies, Watson said.
