A 5-year-old boy was airlifted Sunday morning from Buchanan to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville after he was found unresponsive in Kentucky Lake.

According to a report by Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy James Cole, a family visiting from out of state was staying at a cabin near Little Eagle Creek on Kentucky Lake.

The child, who was reported to be autistic and non-verbal, was first noticed missing about 5:30 a.m. Sunday when his father woke up and searched for him.

The father went outside and found the child a short distance from the cabin “floating in the water face down.”

Cole mentioned in the report that the child was apparently not breathing after he was pulled out of the water.

The father brought the child out of the water, onto a boat dock walkway and performed CPR.

The child began breathing again before Cole had arrived at the scene, the report indicated.

Henry County Emergency Medical Services took the child to the Paris Landing Volunteer Fire Department. Cole’s report indicated the child was airlifted from there to Vanderbilt.

A medical center spokesman had no information on the child’s condition late Monday afternoon
