Henry County Fair Association board member Leon Rogers said the fair will not include a carnival this year, but only because there wasn’t one available to come to the county.
Henry County has been having trouble finding a suitable replacement for Myers International Midways since that company closed permanently a few years ago.
Myers went to county fairs in Tennessee and Kentucky for years, and Rogers said plenty of counties are having trouble finding someone new.
“It was not the fair board’s decision not to have one,” Rogers said of the carnival. “We just couldn’t get one.”
Last year, JCJ Amusements brought a carnival to the fair, and Rogers said the fair board received numerous complaints on the carnival for being old and run down.
Rogers said the board wanted to find a better, safer carnival this year but could not find one.
He said the board has a carnival lined up and scheduled for the 2020 fair, but it was unavailable this year.
The Henry County Fair will run from Aug. 3-10 and will still include other activities, including pageants, livestock events and craft shows.
Rogers said this year’s fair books will come out soon, possibly next week.
