POST-INTELLIGENCER

A Paris man was sentenced to serve six years in jail after he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault during Monday’s session of Henry County Circuit Court.

Gary Dennis Odom, 51, of 705 Nelson School Road was sentenced to serve six years in the Department of Correction when he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in connection with a domestic assault that occurred in July.

According to the terms of Odom’s plea agreement, charges of attempted second-degree murder and manufacture of marijuana against Odom will be dismissed.

Odom will serve his sentence split with one year either in continuous confinement or in a long-term drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. The remainder of the sentence will be served on state probation.

Odom was charged after officers from the Henry County Sheriff’s Department were called to his home July 26 when a woman reported she was being assaulted by a man with a gun.

A report of the incident stated that Odom had fired shots from an outbuilding during the assault, but the woman was not hit.

Odom had walked away from the scene of the assault when officers arrived, but was arrested the following day.
