Paris, Tenn. — Legal documents filed Thursday afternoon in the Henry County Circuit Court Clerk state an investigation is under way by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and is looking into a matter involving an attorney who is a member of the Henry County Bar Association.

The documents don’t name the attorney or indicate how far along the investigation is.

District Attorney Matt Stowe filed the first document asking Circuit Court Judge Donald Parish to recuse him and appoint 26th Judicial District Attorney Jody Pickens as his replacement, so he can discuss with TBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Ronnie Faulkner any investigative findings and what, if any, charges need to be filed.

Stowe already had spoken with Pickens, who agreed to accept this appointment.

Later Thursday afternoon, Parish filed a copy of a letter to Pickens approving Stowe’s request to name Pickens as prosecutor pro tempore.

The letter also stated, “However, because the matter involves one or more lawyers whose practice is located in the 24th Judicial District, I will immediately ask that the Tennessee Supreme Court designate another judge from outside this district to hear all future matters related to the investigation.”
