A good turnout showed up at the Henry County Fairgrounds livestock barn Saturday morning for the annual Beef Cattle Show at the Henry County Fair. One of the highlights was the senior showmanship class with 18 entries.
Two main awards were given. The supreme champion female went to the Hereford heifer shown by Sarah Cate Orr for Young Brothers and Howd Farms. That’s a competition that features champions from all of the breeds entered for the day.
A supreme bull championship was also awarded, with Grant Funderburk’s Hereford bull taking that honor.
The judge for Saturday’s show was Jeremy Childers, the career technical director for Morgan County, Ala.
There were four breed categories included in the heifer competition — Angus, All Other Breeds (AOB), Hereford and Shorthorn. The AOB category features all breeds that didn’t have enough entries to have their own division.
Other big winners for heifers were: Deanna Schoolfield with the grand and reserve grand champion Angus; Jacob Bell with the grand champion AOB; Evan Jackson had reserve grand AOB; Orr for Young Brothers and Howd Farm had the grand and reserve grand Hereford; and Murray Perkins had grand and reserve grand Shorthorn.
The grand champions in the bull competitions were: Angus grand champion, Kaleb Bull; Angus reserve grand, Schoolfield; AOB grand champion, Jacob Bell; Hereford grand and reserve grand champions, Funderburk.
There were no Shorthorn bulls entered.
There were four winners for showmanship honors. They were Ethan Oliver for pee wee, John Oliver for novice, Evan Jackson for junior, and Jacob Bell for senior.
