Free food boxes will be given out to Henry County residents during the Farmers to Families Giveaway starting at 2:45 p.m. Friday at Henry School.
Anyone in Henry County can get a box as long as a proof of residence is shown.
Each box will contain 10-12 pounds of fruits and vegetables, 5-6 pounds of precooked frozen or refrigerated meat and 5-6 pounds of dairy items. One box will be given per family.
This will be a drive thru giveaway and people will have their box loaded into their vehicle for them.
Susan Burton, director of federal programs and grants for Henry County schools, said people should enter from the south end of Henry School and go through the front parking lot to find the giveaway.
The initiative is driven by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the county school system, who are working with farmers and producers to ensure that people have access to fresh food during the COVID-19 pandemic.
For more information contact the county school system at 642-9733. Burton’s extension is 1304.
