The Paris Special School District announced Wednesday afternoon that Rhea Elementary School will be closed Thursday and Friday because of sickness.
The schools will be closed for sanitizing, according to Director of Schools Norma Gerrell.
Several adults and students have had positive tests for coronavirus. Gerrell did not have an exact number on the cases, which were counted since Wednesday morning.
“This is a preventive measure to keep down viruses, since we are also seeing strep throat cases at the school,” she said. “It’s the best measure to give the kids two days off and get back to school next week.”
Rhea students who have already been in full virtual learning this year will continue to do so. Gerrell said students who have been physically in school had work packets sent home with them.
The decision will not effect Paris Elementary School or Inman Middle School, the other two schools in the PSSD, which will have sessions as normal.
Kids Club will be closed at Rhea on Thursday and Friday, but will be open at PES.
