Several Rhea Public Library events scheduled

Rhea Public Library will be hosting several events during September.

From 6-7 p.m. Monday, library visitors can attend a workshop to make pumpkin spice bath bombs.

A “Tech Tuesday” will be from 3:15-5:15 p.m. Tuesday. It will be a free-play session.

Preschool Story Hour will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The theme will be pirates.

Another “Tech Tuesday,” focusing on bath bomb creation, will be from 3:15-5:15 p.m. on Sept. 24.

Preschool Story Hour participants will walk on a field trip to the downtown fire station at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 25. 

 

Free airplane rides to be offered to children on Saturday

The Experimental Aircraft Association will be offering free airplane rides to area children ages 8-17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Henry County Airport.

The EAA is offering these flights to teach youths about airplanes and aviation. Registration will occur at the event.

Children will need a parent or legal adult present to sign the registration form. Adults will not be flying with their children.

Participants will receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle and a log book with their flight recorded and room for more. 

 

Puryear water tanks upgrade project has been completed

Mayor David Varner told members of the Puryear Mayor and Board of Aldermen Tuesday afternoon that the city’s water tank project had been completed.

The $20,000 contracted project involved upgrading and painting of both of the city’s water tanks.

The city’s general fund was reported at almost $433,300 with deposits of slightly more than $51,000. Bills totaling $44,108 were paid during the past month.

 

Henry County Genealogical society to meet Monday

The annual dinner meeting of the Henry County Genealogical Society will take place at 6 p.m. Monday in the private dining room of Fresh Market restaurant, 2255 E. Wood St.

The after-dinner speaker will be Randy Bishop, noted Civil War speaker and writer on battlefields and generals in this vicinity.

Guests are invited to celebrate their family’s heritage and learn of the society’s plans for the year.
