Gary and Nancy Morris (GANM, LLC) of Paris won first place in an international competition for best technology innovation for safe patient handling and mobility (SPHM).
The award was for their Footbar Walker, invented about five years ago to allow people who need assistance to stand and sit much easier and more naturally.
“We were both surprised and pleased,” Nancy Morris said.
In recognition of the essential partnership between end users and technology companies, the International Journal of SPHM sponsored the second SPHM Technology Innovation award.
The Morrises were judged by a team of international SPHM experts using the following criteria: innovation, the problem the technology solves;
the technology’s compatibility with existing SPHM equipment (if appropriate), ease of use for the end user, cost, durability and how intuitive the technology is to use.
After attending the 2019 SPHM Conference in March in Orlando, Fla., Nancy Morris became aware of this contest, which she entered last May.
They were informed of their win Dec. 9, and received a certificate earlier this month.
“It is a wonderful feeling to have received this award from a panel of judges from all over the world,” she said. “We are hopeful that this will help us market to a larger group of people now.”
An article is to be published in the International Journal this month, also announcing second- and third-place winners.
The Morrises’ company is located at 130 Hwy. 69 just northwest of the West Wood “Y.”
