The Henry County Board of Education will move onward with discussions to name the Patriot Stadium press box at Henry County High School after longtime public address announcer Jim Farmer.
Farmer has been stadium announcer for the Patriots football team for nearly 30 years.
HCHS Athletic Director Mike Poteete presented the idea to the Henry County School System Facilities and Grounds Committee, comprised of school board members Jim McCampbell and Stan Dunagan, as well as Director of Schools Leah Watkins and Maintenance Supervisor John Akers Monday.
“Jim Farmer is a cornerstone of Henry County High School football and I think it would be an honor to show him how much he means to us,” Poteete told the committee.
Watkins and McCampbell both agreed that Farmer has contributed a lot to the school and that he meets the policy criteria for having a campus building named after him for his contributions.
Poteete added that he would love to have Farmer and his family at a pregame ceremony next season for that lettering to be unveiled, if it winds up being voted on and approved by the school board June 17.
The board will have a discussion on naming an area of Harrelson School after the late Rubin Adams, a technology teacher who died last year.
