The Paris Rotary Club will be hosting a radiothon and item pickup and donation Friday and Saturday to benefit the Paris Special School District weekend backpack program.
The program discreetly places bags of nutritional snacks in the backpacks of students in need every Friday.
Rotary Club members will be live on air Friday morning from 7-11 a.m. on WHNY-FM (104.7) to discuss the weekend backpack program and talk about their continuing plans on Saturday.
Club members will be at area grocery stores Saturday asking shoppers to purchase food to donate to the program. Members will be at Save-A-Lot, Walmart, Cash Saver, Lakeway IGA, Kroger and Dollar General stores in Paris.
Shoppers at those stores will be given lists of needed items as they go into the store and anything purchased can be brought back out and given to the Rotary Club members.
Donations will be accepted at the stores from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Items needed include peanut butter, applesauce, individual macaroni and cheese packs, toaster pastries, ravioli, fruit cups, granola bars, cheese or peanut butter crackers, and cheese and graham cracker snacks.
Monetary donations will also be accepted.
