Henry County High School will observe its 50th anniversary with a special weekend Sept. 27-29.
“Several events are being planned for the Happy 50th Birthday HCHS weekend, and we invite anyone with a connection to Henry County High School to help us celebrate,” Michele Webb, the school’s principal, said.
Several classes plan to tailgate prior to the 7:30 p.m. kickoff for the homecoming football game on Sept. 27. Special recognitions will take place during the game.
The HCHS All Classes Alumni Gala — an event open to all of the school’s alumni, educators and guests — will be on Sept. 28 at the Henry County Fairgrounds, with doors opening at 5 p.m., dinner and program at 6 p.m. and dancing afterward. Tickets will be $25 a person and available beginning today in the main office of HCHS from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. Only 400 tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
An open house will take place from 2-4 p.m. on Sept. 29. The Little Theater will be renamed the Linda Wilson Miller Theater with a ceremony at 2 p.m. followed by a time capsule burial at 3 p.m. Tours of the building and a 50th anniversary exhibit will be available.
“HCHS is looking for people to loan us artifacts, including uniforms, jackets, shirts, pennants, photographs, etc., representing all decades of the school’s history for the exhibit. In addition, our 50th anniversary committee welcomes ideas of items to be placed in the time capsule that will be opened as part of the school’s centennial in 2069,” said Webb.
