The Henry Mayor and Board of Aldermen agreed to hire a new part-time city police officer at its regular meeting Thursday.
The board unanimously approved the hiring of Michael Sevarns during the meeting at Henry City Hall, according to Sonya Clayton, Henry city recorder. Sevarns is also a full-time Carroll County Sheriff’s deputy, Clayton said.
In other business, the board:
• Unanimously agreed to close the city’s burning area.
The area, which is used for the burning of leaves, tree limbs and similar debris, is located by the city shop on Park Drive.
• Renewed a contract for the city’s sanitation services.
The city renewed a five-year contract with long-time sanitation provider Republic Services. The new contract includes a 3 percent increase for homes and residents.
