PARIS TN: Stepping up in a time of need

Avery McElrath (left) of Lifeline Blood Services confers with Kyla Lowe of Paris as she is one of many residents lined up to donate blood Friday at Joe Mahan Ford in Paris. McElrath said the Bloodmobile had already had 50 donors after just two hours. The five-hour event wound up drawing 97 potential donors and 70 units were collected, according to a Lifeline spokesman. That same day, the American Red Cross had a bus parked in front of Four Seasons at 2505 E. Wood St. for its own blood drive. Another 43 donors were able to give blood there, according to Tiffany Taylor of the Red Cross Tennessee Valley and River Valley regions. A blood shortage has been ongoing here since the March 3 tornadoes.
