Intersection work part of East Wood Street paving project

David Ortiz of Martin Paving Co., based in Medina, is pictured Monday afternoon leveling the curb of the still-wet concrete sidewalk in front of Karonel’s Kars on East Wood Street. The Tennessee Department of Transportation is having the company redo the corners of sidewalks going from the intersection of Tyson Avenue and East Wood Street, all the way to the courthouse square at East Wood and Market streets. The purpose of the project is to make the curbs handicapped-accessible. Workers said the intersection portions of the project — making them ADA (American Disabilities Act)-compliant — could be completed by the end of the week as long as weather doesn’t cause any issues.
