Emergency workers converge at the scene of a boat fire Saturday afternoon in Cypress Bay on Kentucky Lake. According to Chief Reggie Coles of the Paris Landing Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched the the fire scene about 3 p.m. to 140 Cypress Heights Lane. On arrival, firefighters found a 30-foot Cabin Cruiser drifting in the bay with light smoke coming from the engine compartment. Bystanders reported that everyone was off the boat, and had left the scene in another boat. The fire was extinguished with assistance from the Paris Henry County Rescue Squad and Calloway County Fire and Rescue, and the boat was towed to shore. The exact cause has not been determined but appears to be accidental. Damage is estimated at $5,000. The boat's owner, Brian Johnson of Dover, could not be reached by firefighters at the time of the report. Paris Landing firefighters responded with three trucks and eight firefighters, and were on the scene for and hour and a half. The Paris-Henry County Rescue Squad had two boats and five squad members on the scene, while Calloway County Fire and Rescue responded with three boats and eight firefighters.
