Keeping drugs off the streets, bit by bit

Sarah Thomas (left, background), director of the Henry County Prevention Coalition, watches as Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Sanders drops some unwanted prescription medicines into a drug collection box during the National Drug Takeback Day earlier this month outside Kroger supermarket. For those who missed the takeback event, unwanted prescriptions can be dropped off 24 hours a day, seven days a week at the Paris Police Department’s drop box outside the 911 dispatch center at 100 North Caldwell St., or in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Department, 210 Forrest Heights. Those unable to make the trip can call Sheriff’s Department dispatchers at 642-1672 to arrange for drug pickup. Thomas said another takeback event will take place in July.
