Phyllis Welch

Former artist Phyliss Mary Mlsna Welch, 97, of Buchanan died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House in Murray.

Her memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home in Murray, officiated by Mark Welch, Karen Welch and Michael Pickens. Visitation is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Welch was born on May 6, 1922, in Oak Park, Ill. She was the daughter of the late Frantesk and Mary Toman Mlsna.

She was married on March 18, 1944, to Elmer Scott Welch, who preceded her in death. 

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Marie Welch (Charles) Haag of Buchanan and Nancy Carol (Daniel) Welch Kletzien of Cascade, Wis.; six grandchildren: Katherine Lynn Rogers, Sandra Eihler, Adam Haag, and Eric, Greg and Chris Kletzien; six great-grandchildren: Ariana Eihler, Brionna Elzey, Mary and Mason Rogers and Alec and Anna Haag; and one great-great-granddaughter, Marley Jo Elzey.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Curt Kletzien; and two brothers, Otto Tony Mlsna and Ladislav Mlsna.

Welch was an award-winning artist and a member of New Life Church in Murray. She was a member of the Military Order of Guards in Chicago during World War II.
