Navy veteran Billy Keith Edwards, 64, of Buchanan, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at his home. No cause of death was given.

His graveside service was Friday at Everetts Chapel Cemetery in McKenzie, with Kenny Carr officiating, followed by U.S. Navy military honors.

Pallbearers were Allen Gooch, Elvis Clement, Tim Gearin, Richard Sager, and Jason and Dennis Edwards.

Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edwards was born Oct. 12, 1954, in East St. Louis, Ill. He was the son of the late Billy Ray and Freda Jean Davis Edwards.

Survivors include his wife, Tami Hensley Edwards of Buchanan; a son, Billy Keith “BJ” Jr. (Tammy) Edwards of Springfield; six grandchildren, Samantha Kay, Katherine Elizabeth and Isabel Rose Brittingham, and Abigale Elna, Zachary Cavin and Michaiah Shawn Edwards; and a brother, Dennis (Gale) Edwards of McKenzie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shawnna Kay Brittingham.

Edwards worked at Tecumseh and at a penitentiary.

He was also a Torpedoman’s Mate on the USS Yosemite AD19. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1973-77 and served one year with the McKenzie National Guard.
