Verne D. Bendorf, 79, of Puryear died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020 at The Farms at Puryear nursing home.
His body is to be cremated and a celebration of life will be planned for a later date. McEvoy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Bendorf was born May 7, 1941, in Williamsburg, Iowa. He was the son of the late Julius Henry Bendorf and Anna Marie Klienmeyer Bendorf.
He married Rita Roberts Bendorf in March of 1986 and she survives in Puryear.
Other survivors include two daughters, Linda Reilly and Debbie Akers, both of Memphis; a son, Jeff (Darryn) Bendorf of Millington; a sister, Judy Lawson of Iowa; three grandchildren: Bryan and April Akers and Jacob Bendorf; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several sisters and brothers.
Mr. Bendorf was a U.S. Navy veteran with 20 years of service. Upon his retirement he worked for FedEx, which he also retired from. Verne enjoyed fishing, loved his dogs, and gardening. He attended Grace Episcopal Church.
He also enjoyed spending time with his animals, his wife and family and traveling.
