Marie Charles, 93, of Buchanan died Monday, July 5, 2021, at Henry County Healthcare Center.
Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McEvoy Funeral Home, with Randy Stephens officiating.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Charles was born Feb. 15, 1928, in Hazard, Ky. She was the daughter of the late Thomas
Fugate and Ellen Fitzpatrick Fugate.
She married Paul J. Charles on Jan. 5, 1945. He preceded her in death Oct. 22, 1982.
She is survived by three sons: Paul (Janice) Charles, Dennis Charles and Harold (Deborah) Charles, all of Buchanan; eight grandchildren: Kelley (Leo) Chavez, Gena (Jerry) Cid, Carrie (Todd) Birky, Sean (Iryna) Charles, Nikkie (Bill) Charles, Joseph (Jennifer) Charles, Stacy Wood and Alan Kieres; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Polly Riddle of Avilla, Ind.; and a brother, Thomas Fugate of Lake Zurich, Ill.
In addition to her parents and husband, Charles was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Rainwater, who died in 2011; a grandchild, Gene Noble; three sisters: Mabel LaBrant, Cleo Vester and Rebecca McCarty; and four brothers: Arvil, John Elliott, Ardith and Paul Dean Fugate.
She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all.
She enjoyed family, gardening, Chihuahuas, watching all her birds and other wildlife on her property.
She was loving and caring to all, even in her times of need and pain. Her beautiful smile, warmth and wisdom will be missed by all.
