James H. McKinney, 52, of Whitlock died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, at his home.
His funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at McEvoy Funeral Home, with Richard Adkisson of Progressive Baptist Church officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Stallions Jr., Jerry Stallions III, Fred Lewis, Zachariah Carper, Patrick Smouthers and Wally Smouthers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jaaron Lewis and Jared Fenstermaker.
Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Buchanan. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
McKinney was born Dec. 16, 1968, in Paris. He was the son of the late J.R. McKinney Jr. and the late Charlene Clark McKinney.
He married Brenda Smouthers McKinney of Whitlock on April 6, 1996, and she survives.
Along with his wife, McKinney is survived by a daughter, Shannon Smouthers of Paris; a son, Jerry (fiancee Kristen Carper) Stallions Jr. of Henry; a son-in-law, Fred Lewis of Paris; four grandchildren: Andrea (Jared) Stallions, Zachariah (Laura) Carper, Jerry Stallions III and Jaaron Lewis; a great-grandchild, Ezra Clay Carper; five sisters: Debra (Hank) Rogers of Fulton, Miss., Diane (Bill) Fuller of Friendswood, Texas; Melinda (Ronnie) Penland of Enka, N.C., Brenda Rucky of Texas and Emma (John) Placke of South Carolina.
He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including his mother-in-law, Ilene Slawinski; sisters-in-law, Laura (Dave) Gorman and Susie Kurilla; brothers-in-law: Larry (Debbie) Smouthers, Pat Smouthers, Wally Smouthers, Lenny Smouthers and Roger Smouthers.
In addition to his parents, McKinney was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John Slawinski.
