Navy veteran Jerry Davison Thompson, 79, of Springville died Monday, June 17, 2019, at his home.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Jerry Parsons officiating.
Pallbearers will be Charlie Hall, Nathan Affolter, Jamey and Collin Dougherty, and Brian, James, Jeremy and Steven Thompson.
Burial with military honors will be in the Thompson Family Cemetery in Springville.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Thompson was born April 20, 1940, in Red House, W. Va. He was the son of the late Ezra Norman Thompson and Arlene Francis Hammack Cooper.
He was married on April 1, 1960, to Barbara Frances Sanders Thompson, who preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 2004.
He is survived by two daughters, Laura (Jamey) Dougherty of Buchanan and Susan (Ronnie) Beltz of Paris; a son, Steven (Lynn) Thompson of Springville; six grandchildren: Jeremy (Kelsy) Thompson, James (Bailey) Thompson, and Chelsea, Collin, Keri and Starla Dougherty; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jacque Beaver of Charleston, W.Va.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, June Thompson Affolter; and two brothers, Donley Franklin and William Darrel Thompson.
He was a member of Beacon Baptist Church. He retired after 40 years as an electrician with Ford Motor Co. A family member said he enjoyed gardening, farming, collecting guns and reloading his own ammunition. He loved spending time with his family and his dogs.
