Army veteran Henry Norman Ward Sr., 70, of Paris died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, in Sumter, S.C., of cancer while visiting his children.
A graveside service with military honors was held Monday at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, S.C., officiated by the Rev. Mark Yoder. Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home & Crematory in Sumter was in charge of arrangements.
Ward was born Jan. 18, 1949, in Chicago. He was the son of the late Trenton and Rita Kandula Ward.
He is survived by a son, Henry N. Ward II of North Carolina; two daughters, Angela Ward of North Carolina and Monica Ward-Lyon of Sumter; seven grandchildren: Jonathan Ward, Kaitlyn and Brandon McCary, Carl Lyon Jr. and Elizabeth, Kimberly and Samuel Lyon; four great-grandchildren: Nathan Lyon, and D.J., Benjamin and Haylee Ward; a brother, Michael (Linda) Ward of Buchanan; two aunts, Gerlene McBee of Paris and Margie Ward of Memphis; two uncles, Lonnie (JoAnn) Ward of Smyrna and Toy T. (Pat) Ward of Jackson.
Ward served his country in Vietnam.
