EDITOR’S NOTE: This column is a reprint of a Nov. 29, 2013, column by the late Kert Blackwood.
This column is probably going to catch more flak than usual, so let’s clear the air quickly:
I don’t care what the left-wing liberals think. There, I feel better already.
From Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals No. 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.”
So let’s use the Left’s own weapon against them.
In The Post-Intelligencer’s online comments section following last week’s Tea Party column by Art Highland, the first two “doofus” comments are a prime Rule 5 example.
Their tactic is to totally ignore the incontrovertibly documented and true content in the column. Then, they spew forth disconnected drivel based on the concept of calling truth a lie and vice versa.
These people, and others like them, are so devoid of critical-thinking skills that their attempts at ridicule are rubber-stamped week after tedious week.
Who are the people of the “Left”? Whence came they? What brought them into being?
The answers to these questions are complex, but in general, Leftists are part of one of a number of subgroups whose commonality is taking (e.g., wealth, liberty) from others.
The following is a rudimentary description of the process of “wealth redistribution,” which even the least-sophisticated thinkers of the Left should be able to grasp:
The folks who are getting the free stuff don’t like the folks who are paying for the free stuff, because the folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff.
So the folks who are paying for the free stuff want the free stuff to stop.
But the folks who are getting the free stuff want even more free stuff on top of the free stuff they are already getting!
Now, the people who are forcing other people to pay for the free stuff have told the people who are receiving the free stuff that the people who are paying for the free stuff are being mean, prejudiced and racist.
So the people who are getting the free stuff have been convinced they need to hate the people who are paying for the free stuff by the people who are forcing other people to pay for their free stuff and giving them the free stuff in the first place.
We have let the free stuff-giving go on for so long that there are now more people getting free stuff than paying for the free stuff.
This allegory illustrates the “sponges” of modern society. Please note, “sponges” does not reference legitimately needful individuals.
How did this sponge segment of society come into existence? There are two distinct categories of people directly responsible for its creation.
The first is corrupt politicians who pass out freebies in order to hold their seat of power.
The second is lazy and/or corrupted government employees who knowingly enroll unqualified applicants into every existing giveaway program.
Whether this is done out graft or out of kinship, friendship, mere acquaintance or because the applicant is Uncle Herman’s ex-wife’s oldest son’s next-door neighbor and he’s a “good ole boy,” the end result is theft.
They are willing to help him “scr-- the Man” (aka taxpayers) for a benefit for which there is no just qualification.
To what do we owe the creation of this corrupt collection of individuals responsible for societal breakdown?
At the root is the age-old human condition known as sin — the natural bent of man unfettered by rules of proper behavior and the biblical constraints which prohibit such behavior.
Since the Garden of Eden, man has striven to improve upon the serpent’s (Satan’s) first intervention with man — the lie.
A revealing aspect of that is contained in a study conducted at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania and reported in The Los Angeles Times — oh the irony! — indicating that college students who cheat are more likely to seek a job in government (www.latimes.com “Cheating students more likely to want government jobs, study finds”).
Those who possess an innate shrewdness and are willing to set aside the standard laws of civilized behavior, unfortunately, at times will rise to positions of command and authority. Their influence is then intermingled into all the facets of society, including government.
What produces Leftist radicals? One of the most influential factors is the current public education system — a target of the Leftist movement since it was born — which has been under incremental “transformative reconstruction” for several decades.
Modern “progressive education” has yielded high school graduates who all too often are not even close to being ready for college (www.abcnews.com, “College-Bound Students Not Prepared in Basic Subjects”).
The less prepared a student is, the easier it is to indoctrinate him/her with the Leftist propaganda and philosophy held by the vast majority of current college professors.
We owe it to the younger generation to stand for truth and to call stupidity by name, instead of falling for “political correctness” and avoiding confrontation with people whose only argument is to malign all that is pure and right at every opportunity!
When the numbers of the Bill Ayerses, John Kerrys, Nancy Pelosis, Harry Reids and Barak Hussein Obamas surpass the numbers of the Dr. Ben Carsons, Dr. Thomas Sowells, Sarah Palins, Franklin Grahams and Mother Theresas, we will have reached an imbalance which will turn civilization as we know it on its head.
Plato said, “One of the penalties of not participating in politics is that you will be governed by your inferiors.”
KERT BLACKWOOD, now deceased, was a past-president and long-time member of the local Volunteers for Freedom Tea Party.
