To the editor:

When did the field of medicine become all about making money? This is what lies behind the dispute between Henry County Medical Center and Dr. Heather Melton. I have sympathy for neither.

Advertising for patients? Working more “cases” to earn bonuses? I know this is the state of medicine in this country controlled and driven by insurance companies.

Where are the doctors who have entered this field to encounter the human person, who look not first, or at all, to getting paid, but to helping a person in need?

I know they are out there, and perhaps Dr. Melton is one. Perhaps there are some good souls at HCMC who work in the field of medicine for the good of people rather than a lucrative income.

It just did not come across in the article in Friday’s paper.
