River Conference athletic directors voted Wednesday to postpone the conference’s middle school basketball tournament until the middle of January.
It was determined that too many conference games need to be made up for the league to be able to play its tournament at the start of December as it was scheduled. Harrelson, Henry and Lakewood schools in Henry County are all members of the River Conference.
The tournament will now start Jan. 14 with games also being played Jan. 16, Jan. 19, Jan. 21 and Jan. 23.
The games will be played on the homecourts of the higher seeds until the championship games on Jan. 23. Those games will be played at Henry County High School’s Gamlin Gymnasium.
Ticket sales for the tournament will be limited to two tickets for each player or cheerleader.
In the event a team is in quarantine on the day of a tournament game, that team will forfeit the game with the opponent advancing to the next round. The first-place team from the regular season will be declared the conference champion if the tournament is unable to be played.
Games have been postponed throughout the conference this week. Lakewood was scheduled to host Henry tonight but those games have been called off.
The conference schools are working to reschedule games throughout December and early January. New schedules will be released as soon as possible.
