Road trips to Clarksville on Monday produced a win for the Henry County High School baseball team, but the Lady Patriot softball squad suffered a district loss.
The Patriots slugged their way to a 10-6 triumph over Clarksville Northwest to improve to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in District 10-AAA games. Henry County’s boys were scheduled to host Northwest on Tuesday at HCHS.
In softball, the Lady Patriots dropped a 5-2 decision at Montgomery Central. Henry County’s girls are 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the district. The Lady Patriots were slated to entertain Northwest on Tuesday.
PATRIOTS 10, VIKINGS 6
Northwest scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead and erased a 2-1 Patriot advantage by scoring three times in the bottom of the fifth frame.
Henry County had scored single runs in the third and fourth innings before erupting for eight in the top of the sixth to grab a 10-4 lead. Northwest added two in the bottom of the seventh, but the Patriots held on to win.
Will Norwood laced two hits for the Patriots, including a double. Cale Ellis didn’t have any hits, but did knock in two runs. John Carter Olive had a base hit, scored two times and knocked in one run. Kaine Gallimore had a hit, an RBI and scored a run.
Hudson Cepparulo pitched the first six innings, allowing four runs, with only two being earned. He gave up eight hits while walking three and fanning six.
Gallimore got two strikeouts in the seventh inning, but allowed two unearned runs. He walked four.
Olive came in to get the game’s final out for the Patriots.
INDIANS 5, LADY PATS 2
Henry County took a 2-1 lead in the second inning, but didn’t score again. Montgomery Central tied the game with a fourth-inning run and scored three times in the bottom of the fifth frame to pull out the victory.
Henry County’s Shelby Summers had two hits, including a triple. She knocked in one run. Also getting hits for the Lady Patriots were Alley French, Avery Cox and Kinsley Nichols.
Alyson Smith pitched 4 1/3 innings for Henry County. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits while recording two strikeouts.
Summers threw 1 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits and a walk.
