Patton sendoff is this afternoon
Downtown Paris Boxing has scheduled a sendoff event for boxer Cam’ron Patton starting at 5:30 today at the club’s gym located in the Tayloe-Hancock Glass building at 209 E. Wood St.
Patton is leaving Paris to train at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. He received the invitation to train at the Olympic center after winning a national boxing championship in December.
Later this year, he will be traveling to Bulgaria to compete with the U.S. Junior team.
Alloys visit Chiefs on Saturday
A 12-7 victory over the Dalton Danger on Saturday at Dalton, Ga. moved the Clarksville Chiefs’ record to 2-0 in the Independent American Football League season.
The semi-pro Chiefs will play host to the Alcoa Alloys at 6 p.m. Saturday at Barton Field in Paris. Gates will open at 5 p.m.
Tickets are $7 with active military personnel paying $5. Children 10 and under will be admitted free.
Betherl fishermen place third
Bethel University’s fishing duo of John Garrett and Kyle Palmer placed third in the FLW collegiate national championship this weekend on the Harris Chain of Lakes at Leland, Fla.
Garrett and Palmer barely made the top 10 cut for the championship round on Sunday but moved up to the third-place position by weighing in five fish on the final day with a weight of 15 pounds, 10 ounces, bringing their three-day total weight to 50 pounds, 7 ounces for the tournament.
Bethel had five teams qualifying for the national championship. A total of 160 boats competed for the coveted title.
Garrett and Palmer qualify for the FLW All-American Pro tournament this fall and will have a chance to fish for more than $250,000 in cash and prizes.
