Members of the Henry County High School fishing team will put their tackle to use starting Saturday in a West Tennessee Region BASS National High School Trail event out of Pebble Island Marina near New Johnsonville.
There are nine returning members on the 14-person team that is coached by Kandi Ellis, who teaches at Henry School. The team includes Matt Bradham, Caleb Ferguson, Jayce Reddick, Sawyer Williams, Craig Anderson, Chance Johnson, Rodney Littleton Jr., Tyler Forrest, Cassadi Evans, Mercedes Ellis, Matt Parrish, Gage Sherrod, Gage Starks and Gavin Gordon.
The HCHS squad competed in the state tournament in May on Old Hickory Lake north of Nashville and three qualified for the nationals held in August at Paris Landing.
There are five more events on the schedule for the team this season. They will fish out of Pickwick State Park Sept. 29 and from Percy Priest Fate Sanders on Oct. 20. That will complete the three-event fall portion of the schedule.
Fishing resumes Feb. 23 on Kentucky Lake out of Eagle Bay. The next event will be next April 6 again on Kentucky Lake but out of Eva. The divisional championship is scheduled for next April 13 out of Perryville Marina near Parsons.
The state tournament will be held May 3-4 at Douglas Lake in East Tennessee.
Ellis says she hopes local fishing fans will come out to support the team at its events.
