Cross country runners from Henry County High School were involved in a pair of races last week.
On Wednesday, the Patriots turned in a second place finish in the Lexington High School Tiger Run at Lexington. Chester County won the team competition.
Patriot Hunter Lawrence placed eighth with a time of 18:42 while Tyler Johns was 17th at 19:26 and Sam Bruce came in 18th at 19:31. Connor Cox was 20th at 19:42 with Austin Dunagan running 27th at 20:22.
Luke Nichols ran the race in 20:24 to place 28th while Devin Pritchett’s time was 20:30 which was good for No. 30. Peyton King ran the race in 24:55 but did not place.
“It was another good showing for the boys,” said HCHS cross country coach Lance Winders. “It was extremely hot and sunny. Tyler and Austin continue to improve. Our three through eight runners are very close right now.”
On Saturday, Dinah and Silas Winders ran at the Alexander/Asics Invitational in Douglasville, Ga. Dinah came in fourth in the girls’ race with a time of 17:45. Only 13 seconds separated the top four runners. There were 230 runners in the race.
Silas Winders came in second out of 273 runners in the boys race. His time of 14:29 was just 2.5 seconds slower than the winner Justin Wachtel of Georgia. His time was the fastest any Tennessee high school runner has ever recorded in competition at the 5-kilometer distance. Winders previous best run was 14:52.
